Launched in April 2010, Nine Masts Capital is a Hong Kong based capital-structure arbitrage fund investing in Asian stocks and bonds.
When approached to design the new company logo, Avenue De Saxe was given a very specific brief that incorporated a ‘sailing ship’ graphic that portrayed a formidable image. The company is named after the ’9-masted’ treasure junks said to be used by Zheng He on his expeditions to Southeast Asia, South Asia, Arabia and East Africa in the 15th century.
The final logo, after various concepts had been refined, involved the stylised ‘ship’ graphic travelling onward and upward, emerging in a show of strength over the unpredictable waves on the ocean – a fitting metaphor for this investment fund.
